This legacy resort home sits on a south-facing bluff overlooking Martis Creek, preserved
wetland, the 12 th and 13 th holes of the Lahontan Golf Course, and views of Northstar ski runs on
Lookout Mountain. To the east is the forest of protected federal lands in Martis Valley.
The overall concept was for a home blending traditional and modern styles for a large
family with adult children to continue to enjoy. The home seems to tell a secret
historical story that unfolds as one moves through its ‘volumes’, making discoveries that
evoke both peace and the celebration of family connection.
The tour description takes a counterclockwise route showcasing a serpentine layout of a
string of vernacular forms enveloped in the inner motor courtyard. Closest to the street
is a rubble stone guest cottage in an Italian tradition, loosely connected to a chinked log
and timber great room by a modern glass in-fill entry.
One steps into the great room draped in a heavy timber roof structure, with focal points
of a grand fireplace to the west and steel-frame windows highlighting the incredible
views to the south. The great room opens to the east to the dining and kitchen areas,
which in turn open to the southern stone terrace linking to a substantial covered outdoor
room containing another kitchen, dining area, fireplace and sitting area, a sunken spa,
and a hanging swing daybed. Behind the fireplace is a glass connector to the bedroom
wing and along this connector is a staircase to an intimate lookout room.
The eastern end of this connector hallway is a very dynamic floating steel and glass
staircase up to the primary suite and office. An adjacent staircase down brings you to
three en-suite guest rooms, one serving as a bunk room.
Turning north from this juncture is another glass connector to the rustic “barn” at the
east end of the property. The barn has a darker interior featuring reclaimed wood,
heavy timber, and creative acoustic detailing. It is intended to be a fun gathering space
for games, entertainment and libations, ready for generational memories to be made.
Rounding the tour to the north is the mudroom entry and the garage with storage above.
Where timber, stone, and timeless design converge in quiet harmony, this legacy resort home invites generations to gather, celebrate and create lasting memories.
