The owner of a local gas station and convenience store approached us to figure out a way to add a shared residential unit on the property to be used for their workers. We designed a compact 4-bedroom dwelling that is being shared by several workers with a common kitchen and laundry facility. Its proximity to the workplace makes it easy to keep the facility staffed, especially in winter when the roads can make it challenging for workers coming from farther away. The workers previously had to go to Reno to find affordable housing, which meant they were commuting up the highway and often could not reach work to open the store.
